Consoles vs. PC's

I always laugh when companies say that PC gaming is dying, what non-sense. Every couple of years, usually after a fresh crop of consoles hit the market, the drumbeat starts to sound: PC gaming is finished. As well all know, PC gaming will probably outlive any console, but the funny thing is, console gaming is essentially becoming PC gaming.

Consoles are simply a more affordable option for people who want a good gaming experience without breaking the bank. Consoles will evolve to the point where they are no different from PC, so in a manner of speaking, console gaming will be PC gaming. Now that the major consoles support HD there’s just not much reason to game on the PC anymore. I expect that consoles will remain immensely popular until something truly new and revolutionary comes along.

Three years into this so-called “next-gen” console cycle, sales of the game systems — and by extension, the games for them — have generated a boatload of cash, but you don’t hear much about PC gaming these days. The fact that pre-built systems cost more, is a perfectly salient aspect to a discussion of how PC gaming is more expensive. Computers still offer the richest, fullest gaming experiences due to the flexibility of PC hardware configurations. Consoles will always outsell a PC its got a strangle hold on the market but does that mean that PC gaming is dead, no.

I'm pretty sure computer gaming is here to stay (huge market, plus some games just don't work well on consoles), but the simplicity of console gaming is pretty appealing, especially if you don't already have a computer capable of running today's games. So the war is winding down, and while consoles may have been the initial underdog have they emerged champion?
